Cassidy Sanders-Curry's aggression at the hoop led the Stanislaus State women's basketball team to a 67-60 victory over Cal State San Marcos Thursday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
The Warriors are now 13-12 overall and 11-5 in conference, and have taken over the third place standing in the CCAA with Cal Poly Pomona off until Saturday. The Cougars fell to 11-9, 8-7 in league play.
Sanders-Curry was the start of the show, dominating the game with accuracy at the hoop and aggressive defense. She surpassed her previous season high by pouring in 28 points against the Cougars. She was 10-for-16 from the field and 6-for-9 from the three-point line. Sanders-Curry also had six steals, a new career high, and tacked on seven rebounds, three assists and one block for a well-rounded game.
Two other Warriors scored double-digits,
Reana Hardin with 13 points and
Ana Burch with 10.
Riley Holladay was the leading rebounder for Stan State with 12 rebounds, matching her career high. She was also the Warriors assist leader with four.
Stan State played a strong game, giving up the lead only once in the second quarter (27-28). They earned themselves a 15-point lead (61-46) in the final period with a 10-0 run with less than five minutes to go. The Cougars managed to work their way back making it a three-point game at 63-60 in the final minute of the game, but Stan State banked four free throws to finish it off.
The Warriors shot 42 percent as a team and 73.1 percent from behind the three-point arc. They were 6 for 20 from the three-point arch.
Savannah Camp, Lupe Cruz, and Chloe Eackles carried the Cougars with 10 points each. Dee Armenta was Cal State San Marcos' top rebounder with four rebounds.
Stan State will be back at Fitzpatrick Arena in one week for the regular season home finale next Thursday night against Chico State. After that, the Warriors will finish the schedule with three away contests prior to the conference tournament.
