SAN FRANCISCO —
Jack Large led the offensive charge in the rubber game of the four-game series against San Francisco State on Sunday as Stanislaus State split the doubleheader to win the series over the Gators.
Large doubled, homered and drove in three runs in the Sunday nightcap to lift the Warriors to a rebound 8-2 win after SF State took the first game 12-5. Stan State won three of four games in the series to improve to 15-8 overall and 5-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Before Large contributed with his extra base hits, however, the Warriors had a 4-0 lead through the first five innings. Stan State scored twice in the second inning on sacrifice flies to make it 2-0.
Charlie Gaff scored on a wild pitch in the third inning and
Austin Fitzpatrick drove in
Kyle Nixon with a single in the fifth inning.
Large, a true freshman designated hitter, belted a two-run dinger in the fifth to extend the Warriors' lead to 6-0. He also doubled in the game and plated a run with a sac fly in the seventh inning.
Starter
Cody Kruip gave up six hits and two runs with six strikeouts in the first five innings. He was lifted in the sixth inning after a Jordan Abernathy two-run single to make the score 6-2.
Ian Chandler threw two hitless innings to turn away any more SF State attempts to comeback.
Kyle Nixon and
Gino Franceschetti each had two hits in the nightcap to contribute to the Warriors' offense.
For the series, Large went 8-for-14 with eight runs batted in. He had two doubles and a homer and drew two walks in the series against SF State.
SF State (4-16, 2-10 CCAA) used seven pitchers in the seven-inning finale.
In the first game on Sunday, the Gators put up two crooked numbers to build a 9-3 lead. They scored four runs in the second and five in the fourth inning.
Kert Woods had two of the team's five hits and Franceschetti drove in two runs in that game.
