TURLOCK – On the first day of a four-game series, the Stanislaus State softball team split with San Francisco State, winning the opener 7-2 and losing the nightcap 4-6 on Friday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.
The Warriors opened the series strong but came up just short of a perfect day after taking a loss in game two. Stan State is now 12-12, 8-10 in league, and the Gators are 9-17, 8-14 in the CCAA.
Cassidy Duke was the offensive star for Stan State with four hits on the day, going 3-for-4 in game one alone. In the opener Duke hit her third home run of the season, a double, and had four RBI.
Morgan Balestreri went 2-for-3, and
Kylie Ragsdale and
Sierra Mariano each had one hit to drive in a runner.
The Warriors began the day with force, scoring three runs in the first inning. After a quick three outs on four Gator at-bats Stan State scored two more runs at the bottom of the second, which was highlighted by Duke's double to right field. Her homer in the fourth along with Ragsdale's run on a wild pitch rounded out the Warriors seven-run score.
In game two
Alexus Martinez,
Ruby Quiralte,
Anyssa Garvin, and Duke each hit a double. In inning four, the Warriors scored half their runs, keeping the bases loaded for four straight plays before the Gators could produce three outs.
Kylie Ragsdale was the winning pitcher in game one throwing the first four innings. She gave up two earned runs on seven hits, with three strikeouts and one walk. Ragsdale is now 7-4 in the circle.
Kristin Borst earned the save pitching the final three innings.
Anyssa Garvin suffered the loss in game two, pitching 4.1 innings. She gave up five earned runs on nine hits.
The two Gator runs in game one were homers by Sara Higa and Kasie Trezona. In the nightcap, a four-run streak in inning five gave San Francisco State their winning score.
Tomorrow, the Warriors and Gators will be back at Warrior Softball field starting at noon for another doubleheader to finish out the series.
