TURLOCK – On the inaugural day of the Tournament of Champions, the Stanislaus State softball team earned two quality wins against Azusa Pacific and Saint Martin's University on Friday afternoon.
The Warriors were victorious over the Cougars 4-1 and defeated the Saints 4-2. With two more wins added to their record
Stan State is now 16-19.
Katelyn McDonald had a strong day at the plate going 4-for-8. She hit a double in game one, and hit her third home run of the season to earn three RBI in the nightcap. Also in game two
Nicolette Vizcaino went 3-for-4 scoring two runs.
Ruby Quiralte was 2-for-4, and earned the Warriors' final RBI.
Game two was highlighted by McDonald's homer in the first inning which deflected off the right fielder's glove and cleared the fence to also run in Vizcaino and
Alexus Martinez. In the third inning Quiralte hit a single down the left field line to drive in Vizcaino for her second run.
Kylie Ragsdale was the winning pitcher in game one, throwing the entire game. She didn't walk a single batter or allow an earned run, and struck out three batters. Ragsdale is now 9-7 in the circle.
In game two
Megan Stacy earned the win pitching the first four innings. She gave up four hits, walked three batters, struck out four, and is now 3-5 in the circle. Pitching the final three innings
Kristin Borst earned her third save of the season.
Stan State will play two more games tomorrow against Hawaii Hilo and Hawaii Pacific. The first of the back to back games will begin at 2 p.m. at the Pedretti Sports Complex.
