Warriors lose two to No.8 Cal State Monterey Bay

TURLOCK – The Stanislaus State softball team suffered two losses at the hands of No. 8 Cal State Monterey Bay, 0-8 in the five-inning opener and 4-6 in the nightcap on Tuesday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.
 
With two more losses, the Warriors are now 19-24 overall and 9-19 in the CCAA. The Otters are 34-7 and 22-6.
 
After earning only one hit in game one, the Warriors picked up their game in the nightcap with five hits as a team. Nicolette Vizcaino was 2-for-4 and Ruby Quiralte was 1-for-2 with a double. Alexus Martinez and Deja Guzman also had one hit each. Guzman earned herself two RBI and Quiralte and Katelyn McDonald earned one RBI apiece.
 
In the nightcap, the Warriors fought through a back and forth game, earning their first run from a double down the right field line hit by Quiralte at the bottom of the first. After Cal State Monterey Bay took a 3-1 lead, Stan State earned three runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run single hit by Guzman.
 
Homers hit by the Otters in the fourth and sixth innings gave Cal State Monterey Bay the lead.  
 
Anyssa Garvin was the losing pitcher in game one giving up four runs before the Warriors could record an out, and she is now 2-7 from the circle. Kylie Ragsdale took over for Garvin and pitched the remainder of the game.
 
Kristin Borst suffered the loss in the nightcap throwing the first four innings. She gave up five earned runs on 11 hits, walked one batter, and struck out one batter. Borst is now 2-6 in the circle.
 
The Warriors will be back at home this weekend to host Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and Saturday. The first of two games on Friday will begin at 4 p.m.
