TURLOCK - On Friday night at the Warrior Softball Field the Stanislaus State softball team made an impressive comeback to win the nightcap 6-3, splitting the day with Cal State San Bernardino.
Losing the opener 1-3 and adding a victory in game two, the Warriors are now 20-25 overall and 10-20 in the CCAA. The Coyotes are 28-16, and 18-12 in league.
Deja Guzman was hot at the plate in game two going 2-for-3, hitting a double, and earning four RBI.
Ruby Quiralte was 1-for-1 and also hit a double.
Katelyn McDonald and
Bryanna Menor each had a hit and earned an RBI. Three more Warriors,
Alexus Martinez, Nicollete Vizcaino, and
Cassidy Duke, each had a hit to round out Stan State's seven base hits as a team.
The Warriors made an amazing comeback in the nightcap following behind the Coyotes up until the fifth inning. After earning two runs in the fourth (2-3), the Warriors looked to tie the score entering the fifth. With two outs on the board Stan State loaded the bases and drove in four more runs. Guzman's three-run double at the bottom of the inning drove in McDonald, Duke, and
Jill Costa to give the Warriors the lead.
Megan Stacy suffered the loss in game one pitching the first five innings. She gave up two earned runs on five hits, struck out two batters and walked two batters. Stacy is now 4-4 in the circle.
Kristin Borst earned the game two win and is now 3-6 in the circle. She gave up three earned runs on ten hits in five innings. Borst struck out one batter and walked one batter. Pitching the final two innings,
Anyssa Garvin earned the save.
The Warriors and Coyotes will be back at the Warrior Softball Field tomorrow to finish off the series with another doubleheader. The first of two games has been moved up from its original scheduled time, and will now begin at 11 a.m.
