Warriors fall short against Cal State San Bernardino

TURLOCK - The Stanislaus State softball team came up short against Cal State San Bernardino, losing two consecutively 1-6 and 0-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.

The Warriors are now 20-27 overall and 10-22 in league while the Coyotes have advanced to 30-16 and 20-12.

In the opener the Warriors had a rough morning at the plate with a mere four hits as a group. Morgan Balestreri earned half of the team's hits going 2-for-2 with a triple to right field before being driven to home plate by Alexus Martinez

In game two however Stan State held their own with 12 hits as a team. Cassidy Duke was 3-for-4 with a double, and Deja Guzman was 2-for-4 also hitting a double. Madison Mayol went 2-for-3 in the nightcap and Ruby Quiralte was 2-for-4.

With 13 runners left on base throughout game two, the Warriors defense worked hard to prevent the Coyotes from scoring until the final inning. Unfortunately, Stan State was unable to put themselves on the board. The score remained 0-0 until the top of the seventh when a crucial fielding error by the Warriors second baseman put runners on base. A two-run single gave Cal State San Bernardino their wining score.

Kylie Ragsdale suffered the loss in game one pitching the first three innings. She gave up two earned runs on five hits, struck out one batter and walked three. Ragsdale is now 11-9 in the circle.

Anyssa Garvin was the losing pitcher in game two throwing the first two innings and finishing off the seventh. During her time on the field Garvin gave up two earned runs on a total of four hits. She walked two batters, struck out one, and is now 2-8 in the circle.

Next weekend Stan State will be on the road to play a four-game series at Cal State San Marcos. The series opener will take place on Friday at noon at the CSUSM Softball Field.
