Warriors earn doubleheader sweep with two victories over CSUSM

SAN MARCOS – On day one of their final series on the road, the Stanislaus State softball team swept Cal State San Marcos winning the opener 11-0 in five innings, and taking home the nightcap 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the CSUSM Softball Field.
 
Earning their fourth doubleheader sweep of the season, the Warriors can add two more victories to their record. Stan State's triumphs over the Cougars advance them to 22-27 overall and 12-22 in the CCAA. Cal State San Marcos is now 8-34, and 7-26.
 
Stan State dominated the Cougars in game one with a clean shutout, only allowing a single hit. Katelyn McDonald and Nicolette Vizcaino were the stars of the game with immense accuracy at the plate. McDonald was 2-for-3 with two three-run doubles and six RBI. Vizcaino went 4-for-4 at the plate, also hit a double, and earned two RBI. Five additional Warriors had one or more hit in the opener to add to the team's success. Cassidy Duke had two hits and Alexus Martinez, Ruby Quiralte, Madison Mayol, and Kylie Ragsdale each had one. Additionally, Duke, Quiralte, and Ragsdale each earned an RBI.
 
Stan State came out fired up for their last away series of the season, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The first of McDonald's three-run doubles put the Warriors on the board and paved way for what quickly became a supreme Stan State shutout. Three consecutive RBI singles by Vizcaino, Duke, and Quiralte put three more Warrior runs on the board in the second inning. Stan State topped off their high score in the third inning with five more runs highlighted by Vizcaino's double, and a second three-run double by McDonald.
 
In game two, three Warriors had two hits at the plate. Deja Guzman was 2-for-4 and earned two RBI, Morgan Balestreri went 2-for-3, and Alexus Martinez was 2-for-4 scoring two runs. Duke also scored two runs, and Quiralte drove in two.
 
Stan State continued with confidence into the nightcap, quickly adding to their momentum by putting three runs on the board in the first inning. RBI singles by Guzman and Mayol, along with a fielder's choice by Quiralte, drove in the Warriors first three runs. Stan State's final two runs were earned in the fourth inning with two more RBI by Quiralte and Guzman.
 
The Warriors dominated the Cougars in the CCAA doubleheader, out-hitting them 21-4. Stan State totaled 16 runs to the Cougars mere two runs, and earned an RBI for each while Cal State San Marcos left with none.
 
The winning pitcher in game one was Kylie Ragsdale. She pitched all five innings giving up only a single hit and one walk. In her time in the circle Ragsdale struck out two batters and is now 12-9.
 
Kristin Borst earned the win in the nightcap throwing the first five innings. She gave up two earned runs on two hits, walked four batters, and struck out one batter. Borst is now 4-6 in the circle.
 
The Warriors will be back at it tomorrow with another doubleheader against the Cougars beginning at 11 a.m. at the CSUSM Softball Field.
