Stan State completes another sweep, runs streak to seven games

LOS ANGELES — The hottest team in the California Collegiate Athletic Association continues to roll as Stanislaus State punished Cal State L.A. with a 11-5 win on Sunday to complete another series sweep.

The Warriors, winners of seven straight games, have earned their second consecutive three-game series sweep over a CCAA South opponent. Stanislaus State improved to 27-14 overall and 17-13 in the CCAA North, now in sole possession of third place.

Stanislaus State and second place Cal State Monterey Bay (18-12 CCAA) meet next weekend for a four-game set in Turlock for a pivotal series with eight regular season games remaining.

On Sunday, the Warriors completed the sweep over Cal State L.A. (20-20, 13-17 CCAA) with another solid offensive showing and another quality start by a Stan State starter.

The Warriors scattered nine hits and put pressure on the Golden Eagles while capitalizing on six Cal State L.A. errors. Jack Large drove in three runs while Gino Franceschetti and Kert Woods each had two hits and drove in two scores to lead the attack.

Starter Stewart Alexander was the third hurler in as many games to turn in a quality start. He threw six innings and gave up just a run on six hits before turning the game over to the strong bullpen.

After Ian Chandler gave up three runs, Jarrett Veiga limited the damage and Micah Hall pitched the final inning to preserve the win.

Stan State scored four times in the first inning on three hits and two LA errors. In the fifth inning the Warriors made it 6-0 with a pair of runs before blowing it open with a five-run seventh to make it 11-1. L.A. again had three errors in the seventh inning to help the Warriors.

In the end, seven Cal State L.A. pitchers appeared in the game and a allowed seven unearned runs.

The Warriors' final home series, against Cal State Monterey Bay, get underway Friday at 6 p.m. at Warrior Baseball Field.
