TURLOCK – Playing their tenth and eleventh games in nine days, the Stanislaus State softball team split one game apiece with No. 8 Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.
Earning another shutout 4-0 in the opener and coming up short 2-5 in game two, the Warriors are now 19-22 overall and 9-17 in the CCAA. The Otters advance to 30-5, 18-4 in conference.
Katelyn McDonald had two hits during the doubleheader with a home run in game one and a double in the nightcap, tallying five RBI between the two. Also in game one,
Ruby Quiralte was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Nicolette Vizcaino and
Cassidy Duke each tallied two hits and two runs for the day.
In the opener, Stan State came out strong scoring a run in the first inning with a single by Quiralte sending Martinez to home plate. In the third inning McDonald hit a homer out of left center running in Duke and Vizcaino along with herself.
The Warriors continued their momentum into the nightcap taking a 2-0 lead in the third inning. A single that drove in two runs, plus the Otter's three-run homer in the fifth gave Cal State Monterey Bay their lead over Stan State.
Kylie Ragsdale threw the shutout in game one and is now 11-8 in the circle. She gave up five hits, walked three batters, and struck out four.
Megan Stacy was the losing pitcher in game two giving up five earned runs. Stacy struck out one batter, walked three, and is now 4-3.
After a weekend off, the Warriors will be back at home on Tuesday to finish off the series with Cal State Monterey Bay. The two teams will play another doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
