TURLOCK — A three-run sixth inning rally in the nightcap and series finale resulted in a rubber game victory as the Stanislaus State baseball team captured a 10-7 win over Cal State San Marcos on Sunday.
The win, which snapped four-game losing streak, puts the Warriors at 21-14 overall and 11-13 in the CCAA North.
Cal State San Marcos won game on on Sunday, 10-0, in a game that was pushed back from Saturday's scheduled doubleheader that was altered by field maintenance issues.
In the nightcap on Sunday,
Cameron Irinaga started the scoring rally in the sixth with a RBI double, followed by RBI singles by
Nick Ippolito and
Gino Franceschetti to erase a 7-5 deficit. Stan State would hold on to the lead once the bullpen took over for starter
Cody Kruip.
Colby DeVries gave up just one run on five hits in three innings and Nick Voumard threw to shutout frames to preserve the win.
Kert Woods went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple to drive in three runs to lead the Stanislaus offense. Ippolito finished with two hits and
Austin Fitzpatrick had two RBIs including a solo homer in the ninth.
Cal State San Marcos (15-19, 5-17 CCAA) had 24 hits in the twinbill including 16 in the second game. The Cougars capitalized on three Stan State errors and used a six-run sixth to win the first game 10-0.
Ippolito had two hits in game one.
Stewart Alexander went 5 2/3 innings and allowed six runs — all unearned— on six hits in his start.
