Late goals hurt Stan State men in tough loss at Fresno Pacific

FRESNO — Three late scores, including the winner early in overtime, resulted in a heartbreaking loss as Stanislaus State opened the 2017 season with a 3-2 setback at Fresno Pacific.

Loren Friesen's golden goal 5:22 into the extra period helped Fresno Pacific complete its comeback as the Sunbirds erased a 2-0 Stan State lead.

The Warriors were brilliant early in the match, jumping out to a 1-0 lead less than four and a half minutes into the contest on a Joseph Mayorca goal from 40 yards out. Bradlee Taylor assisted on the play. In the 22nd minute, Sean Bender connected with Sean Baird with a nice cross to make it 2-0.

But the second half belonged to FPU as the Sunbirds scored in the 59th minute by Anthony Velarde. The equalizer came in the 71st minute on a Fellipe Souza goal to force overtime.

FPU was credited for out-shooting Stan State, 24-11, on the night.

In goal, Tomas Zajfert held a first-half shutout with three saves. Patrick Colombana played the second half and OT.
