FRESNO — Three late scores, including the winner early in overtime, resulted in a heartbreaking loss as Stanislaus State opened the 2017 season with a 3-2 setback at Fresno Pacific.
Loren Friesen's golden goal 5:22 into the extra period helped Fresno Pacific complete its comeback as the Sunbirds erased a 2-0 Stan State lead.
The Warriors were brilliant early in the match, jumping out to a 1-0 lead less than four and a half minutes into the contest on a
Joseph Mayorca goal from 40 yards out.
Bradlee Taylor assisted on the play. In the 22nd minute,
Sean Bender connected with
Sean Baird with a nice cross to make it 2-0.
But the second half belonged to FPU as the Sunbirds scored in the 59th minute by Anthony Velarde. The equalizer came in the 71st minute on a Fellipe Souza goal to force overtime.
FPU was credited for out-shooting Stan State, 24-11, on the night.

Tomas Zajfert held a first-half shutout with three saves.
