BELMONT — Playing on field turf with the temperature in triple digits, the Stanislaus State and Notre Dame de Namur men's soccer teams' heated battle ended in a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes of play on Saturday.
Officials did not allow the contest to go into the overtime period due to excessive heat in the San Francisco Bay Area. Temperature reached 106 in Belmont this afternoon. Stanislaus would have been playing in its second consecutive OT match as the Warriors played extra time at Fresno Pacific Thursday night.
For a while, it appeared that the Warriors would post an one-goal win after
Bradlee Taylor break the stalemate in the 59th minute. His bicycle kick rebound shot got past NDNU (1-0-1) goalkeeper Javier Santana for his first collegiate goal. Taylor followed a shot taken by
Matthew Waldron, who earned the assist.
However, returning All-American Esteban Berumen equaled the score in the 79th minute on a free kick six-feet outside of the box for Notre Dame de Namur.
Teams tied in the shot category with 12 apiece with the Warriors getting six on frame. Santana picked up five saves.
Tomas Zajfert played the full 90 minutes for Stanislaus to earn four saves.
Stanislaus will leave for Honolulu Tuesday to take on Hawaii Pacific on Thursday and Chaminade on Saturday.
