Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stan State shuts out another opponent, played to scoreless draw at San Marcos

SAN MARCOS — For the second straight season the Stanislaus State and Cal State San Marcos men's soccer teams played to a scoreless draw as the Warriors earned a point in the standings to open CCAA play on Friday.

The Warriors and the Cougars played for 110 minutes with either team able to find the back of the net — however, the chances were there for both teams.

It is Stanislaus State's second straight shutout. The Warriors also blanked Chaminade in their last outing, on Saturday in Honolulu.

"I was proud of the energy our team brought to the game. We were organized and it was great to see the team throw our second consecutive shutout," head coach Dana Taylor said.

The hard fought battle was not without offense action despite no one scoring. Both teams had ample chances, especially for the Warriors. Out of the 14 shots, San State had 10 on frame. CSUSM (2-1-2, 0-0-1) had six shots on frame out of 14.

Tomas Zajfert was in goal for the Warriors on Friday, playing all 110 minutes. He earned four saves for the clean sheet.

"We have to do better moving forward with our chances around the goal. We had some good early looks at the opponents goal and needed to finish them," added Taylor.

These two teams played to a 2-2 tie last October in Turlock and CSUSM won the inaugural meeting two seasons ago.

Stanislaus State will carry a 2-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 conference record when the Warriors head to La Jolla to take on UC San Diego on Sunday.
