LA JOLLA — Four first half goals by UC San Diego were too much for the visiting Stanislaus State men's soccer team to overcome as the Warriors dropped a 4-0 decision at Triton Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
UC San Diego scored all four goals within a 16-minute span, including an "own goal," as the Tritons became the first team since the season opener to be able to score multiple goals against Stanislaus State.
In fact, the Warriors allowed just two goals in the last four matches with back-to-back shutouts before Sunday's match in La Jolla.
The Warriors fell to 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the CCAA after first weekend of play and will face Chico State on Wednesday in Chico. UCSD improved to 3-1-2 and 1-1-0 CCAA.
UC San Diego took charge in the first half with Steven Ortiz opening the scoring in the 22nd minute. Four minutes later, Christian Cordell made it 2-0 before an Stan State own goal in the 34th minute. Uly De al Cal made it 4-0 in the 38th minute to account for all of the scoring on the day.
The Warriors dominated play in the second half while UCSD defended its big lead. Stan State out-shot the Tritons, 11-2, in the second half and forced UCSD goalkeeper Pedro Encisco to pick up three saves.
Patrick Colombana made the start picked up two saves in net.
