Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Offense gone quiet in loss as Chico State continues hot streak

CHICO — While Chico State remains the hottest team in the CCAA, the Stan State men's soccer team's offense has gone a little bit quiet lately.

Two first half goals were what the Wildcats needed as they won their third straight conference match via shutouts. Chico State defeated the Warriors, 2-0, Wednesday night to improve to 5-2-0, 3-0-0 CCAA while the Warriors falls to 2-3-2, 0-2-1 in league play.

Stan State has not scored a goal since beating Chaminade 1-0 on Sept. 9. With that score in the third minute of the contest, that means the Warriors have been kept off the scoreboard for the past 347-plus minutes of play.

The Warriors will most definitely try to turn that fortunate around on Sunday when they finally play a home match against San Francisco State. It will be Stanislaus's first home contest this regular season. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m. at Warrior Stadium.

Chico State has now started the CCAA season with wins at UC San Diego (2-0), Cal State San Marcos (3-0) and against the Warriors (2-0).

On Wednesday at Chico's University Stadium, Fabian Roman (8th minute) and Eruvey Arceta (27th minute) strike for goals in the first half to give the home team the 2-0 lead on two shot attempts.

Stan State out-shot Chico, 9-2, in the opening 45 and had a 15-8 final tally advantage. The Warriors also took eight corner kicks against Chico's two — but to no avail.

The Warriors were able to shut-down Chico State in the second half, despite playing the final 34 minutes of the match a-man down after a red card was issued.

Tomas Zajfert played the full 90 in goal for Stanislaus and earned three saves.
