Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Action-packed men's soccer match resulted in 0-0 draw

TURLOCK — It a scoreless match, but a lot happened.

In an action packed, excellent soccer match, the Stanislaus State and San Francisco State men's soccer teams played to a scoreless draw Sunday at Warrior Stadium.

With another 0-0 tie, the Warriors moved to 2-3-3 overall and 0-2-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. It is already Stanislaus State's second 0-0 game in the conference season's first four matches. SF State is now 5-1-1 and 0-1-1 CCAA.

Patrick Colombana played a stellar match in goal to earn the clean sheet and his second shutout of the season. His biggest play of the day is none other than stopping a penalty kick try.

In the 20th minute, SF State was awarded a PK with Richard Leon taking the try. Colombana knocked away Leon's attempt by diving to his left to preserve the scoreless match.

"I was leaning right but at his last stop I decided to go left and good thing he didn't hit it very well," Colombana said.

Early in the second half, SFSU leader Rainer Plantinos had a breakaway chance, but Colombana came out and met the senior forward to punch the attempt over the net.

Stan State had a couple of golden opportunities but were unlucky in not finding the net. In a rare occurrence, an Adrian Yepez shot bounced off both posts and right back to the Gators' goalkeeper Kyle Harmina. Another Warrior attempt saw the ball danced in front of the goal line but never crossed.

SF State, too, had one of its shots hit the cross bar in the second half.

In the end, teams tallied 36 shot with 11 on frame but none found the back of the net. The Warriors out-shot their opponents again, this time 22-14. Stanislaus out-shot Chico State, 15-8, on Wednesday despite the 2-0 loss.

Stanislaus State has not scored since the 1-0 win at Chaminade on Sept. 9 — 487 minutes ago. In the last four games, the Warriors have out-shot opponents 63-46.

The Warriors were playing in their first regular season home match on Sunday but will have to hit the road again this coming week. Stanislaus travels to take on Sonoma State (Friday) and Humboldt State (Sunday) before five straight home matches in October.
