LA JOLLA — Despite another great outing on the pitch, the Stanislaus State women's soccer team fell just short in an 1-0 loss against No. 19 UC San Diego at Triton Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
The Warriors came up scoreless in two matches on this road trip to start the California Collegiate Athletic Association season and are now 5-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league play. UC San Diego, ranked 19th in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25, moved to 5-2-0 and 2-0-0 CCAA.
Stanislaus State was shutout, also 1-0, on Friday at Cal State San Marcos. The Warriors also started the 2016 CCAA season on the road with a pair of shutout losses.
"We played some outstanding soccer today," said head coach
Gabriel Bolton. "Our build up and possession was really good. We just need to be better in the 18-yard boxes."
Jordyn McNutt scored in the 28th minute for the only goal of the game. UC San Diego out-shot the Warriors 20-5 with eight on frame.
Stan State goalkeeper
Haley Crook had seven saves, including some brilliant ones.
"We definitely came away encouraged at the level of soccer we can play against an excellent opponent even on the road," Bolton added. "It's important to just keep learning and improving."
The Warriors will hit the road again on Wednesday for a mid-week match at Chico State before hosting San Francisco State next Sunday.
