CHICO — Having to battle back from down a goal, the Stanislaus State women's soccer team rallied to tie the score before losing 3-1 to Chico State Wednesday afternoon.
Hannah Lewandowski scored the equalizer in the second half before the Warriors fall to 0-3-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association — all three matches were on the road. Stan State (5-3-0 overall) will finally play a home match this Sunday when it hosts San Francisco State.
"We simply made too many mistakes tonight to beat a good team like Chico on the road," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "I was proud of how we battled back on the road to tie the match. We really had the run of play after that and had chances to take the lead but ultimately we didn't convert."
Chico State got on the board in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick, converted by Pooja Patel. But Lewandowski tied the game 10 minutes later with a left-foot roller after getting touches from
Jade Poon and
Gabriela Vargas.
But Chico State scored two late goals to earn the win to improve to 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in CCAA play.
Lauren Madero scored the eventual game-winner at 85:00 and Sarah Emigh blasted a shot in the 89th minute for the final score.
"We just need to recover and prepare for a home match. It will be refreshing to play in front of our home fans," Bolton said.
Stanislaus was out-shot 17-8 in the match.
Haley Crook was in goal and picked up five saves.
The Warriors host San Francisco State (5-1-0, 0-0-0 CCAA) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
