Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stan State extends unbeaten streak against SF State in scoreless tie

TURLOCK — In a well played conference match by both sides, the Stanislaus State and San Francisco State women's soccer teams ended a long Sunday afternoon with a scoreless draw, each picking up its first point of the CCAA season.

The home team Warriors show toughness and resiliency as they had to battle with a player down for nearly 60 minutes. In the end, Stan State moved to 5-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in league play.

"I couldn't be more proud of our effort today. To play that long down a player and really still create chance after chance is a credit to our effort as a team," said head coach Gabriel Bolton.

Stanislaus State also extended its incredible unbeaten streak against San Francisco State to an amazing record of 18-0-6 over the last 16 years. The Warriors have shutout SF State in six straight meetings. The last time a Gator team defeated Stanislaus, most of the current Warriors were in diapers (2000).

The Gators (5-2-1, 0-1-1 CCAA) still couldn't crack the Stan State team on Sunday despite many chances while out-shooting the home side, 14-12. SF State's best chance came on a penalty kick at 50:40. But Stan State goalkeeper Haley Crook dove to her right to bat away Bianca Lowe's attempt.

That was when a Warrior was called on her second yellow of the game, forcing Stan State to play 9-on-10 between the goalies.

"Tactically I thought it was one of the best games we have ever played. We made adjustments to being down a player and the team executed them to perfection," added Bolton.

The Warriors made some late runs including a try by Gabriela Vargas with less than two to go, but her shot went high. Back to back chances by Julia Cummings and Ilena Rivera in the final minutes of the second OT period both went just wide.

Crook ended up with four saves for a clean sheet for her ninth career shutout (second this season).

Stanislaus State will have to play two more road games — at Sonoma State Friday and Humboldt State Sunday — before a five-game homestand in October.
