LA JOLLA - Playing an outstanding game of basketball and causing arguably the biggest upset of the season, the Stanislaus State women gave the conference leaders, UC San Diego, its first CCAA loss of the season, defeating the Tritons 82-78 at the RIMAC Arena on Thursday night.

Adding the night's significant victory to their record, the Warriors are now 8-10 overall and 5-7 in conference play. With their first loss of the CCAA season, third overall, UCSD is now 15-13 and 11-1.  The Tritions ended an 11-game winning streak.

Playing her best offensive game yet, Kyanna Davis led the Warriors' aggressive scoring efforts with a whopping 21 points, a new personal best. Also in double digits, Lizzy Alexander and Zahria Hendrix each scored 14 points, Angelica Baylon scored 12 points, and Brittney Livingston scored 10 points.

Bouncing back from an earlier injury with no difficulty, Baylon played an impressive game with six steals and five assists. Hendrix added on three steals for the Warriors and Davis also had a steal.

Stan State stayed neck and neck with UCSD throughout the first half, never falling more than seven points behind. The Warriors ended the first quarter down 20-27, and went into half time at 32-39.

In the third quarter Stan State pulled themselves back from a nine-point deficit (34-43), and took the lead before heading into the final period of the game (51-48). In the third, Davis banked a layup, a free-throw, and a three-pointer in the first three minutes to put the Warriors only four points behind. A few layups, a three-pointer, and a jumper put Stan State in the lead and changed the tone of the game.

Although the score did get tight, the Warriors didn't let go of the lead once in the fourth quarter. They worked their way to a nine-point lead (67-58) by the final few minutes of the period, and Stan State's free-throw shooting efficiency won them the game, with eight banked free-throws in the final minute.
