Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Road troubles continue as Warriors fall to Cal State Monterey Bay

SEASIDE — Turnovers and fouls caused the Stanislaus State women's basketball team to drop a 67-56 decision Thursday night as Cal State Monterey Bay handed the Warriors their sixth straight defeat on the road.

Lizzy Alexander led Stan State with 14 points but the Warriors fell to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors are now just 1-6 in away games and have not won in Seaside since 2008.

Cal State Monterey Bay rallied from an 11-point deficit early in the game by cashing in on Stan State turnovers and getting to the foul line. The Otters snapped a seven-game losing streak to improve to 4-11 overall and 3-7 in CCAA play.

The Otters were led by Aubri Smith's 26 points — she was 15 of 16 from the free throw line. Yes, she got to the line often and took 16 attempts.

In all, CSUMB took 37 free throws (made 32) on 33 Stanislaus fouls. On the flip side, CSUMB was only whistled for 19 fouls.

Monterey Bay also scored 29 points off Stan State turnovers. The Warriors tallied 31 turnovers.

Brittney Livingston added 11 points and Caitlin Kedinghad eight. Zahria Hendrix grabbed six of the team's 26 rebounds.

Stanislaus led by 11, at 21-10, with 2:56 left in the first but a 9-0 CSUMB run quickly erased that momentum. The Warriors led for the entire first half, but the second half went CSUMB's way. Another 9-0 Otter run completely took away the Stan State lead and a 10-1 spurt gave CSUMB a 46-35 lead

CSUMB made just one field goal in the fourth quarter, but made six free throw while holding the Warriors to 0-for-10 shooting.
