HAYWARD — Two nights after having one of their best shooting games, the Stanislaus State men's basketball team weren't able to connect on as many shots as the Warriors lost to Cal State East Bay, 72-63, Saturday evening.
Four Warriors were in double figures in scoring, but collectively shot just 32.1 percent — 18 for 56 — in falling to 10-6 overall and 6-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Stan State were just 6 of 22 in the second half (27.3 percent).
Ty Davis led the Warriors with 15 points,
Caleb Baskett scored 12,
Kyle Gouveia added 11 and
Andy Cleaves chipped in 10 to account for most of the team's scoring. The rest of the team scored 15 points.
Davis, Baskett and Cleaves each also had seven rebounds.
The Warriors were also unable to hit the long shots, making just 4 of 21 three-pointers (19 percent). Stanislaus made its living at the free throw line Saturday night, scoring 23 points (on 28 attempts for 82.1 percent) at the charity stripe.
Stan State led by as many as six points in the first half, but the game was tied at halftime, 29-29. The second half belonged mostly on the Pioneers' side as CSUEB shot 50 percent in the second half before finishing the night at 45.2.
A 12-5 CSUEB run during a five-minute window in the second half gave the Pioneers their biggest lead at nine-points.
Cal State East Bay (8-8, 3-6 CCAA) was led by Juwan Anderson's 16 points and 8-rebound effort.
Thursday night at Cal State Monterey Bay, the Warriors shot 48.6 percent and made 11 three-pointers to post a 26-point, 83-57, win.
