Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stan State men capture first CCAA victory with win over Humboldt

TURLOCK — Tying the game just before the half, the Stanislaus State men's soccer team took the momentum into the locker room and came back out with a strong second half to post a 3-1 win over Humboldt State Friday night.

The victory, the Warriors' first during the CCAA season, meant Stan State has won two straight matches as they improved to 5-7-0 overall and 1-6-0 in league play.

An incredible header goal in traffic by Desmond Madrigal at 44:33 even the score just before intermission. The try came from a Antonio Hernandez corner kick from the far side as he sent the ball into a lot of people in the box. Somehow, it found Madrigal as he out-jumped everyone for the goal.

That score was the start of three unanswered goals by Stanislaus as they post the solid win.

In the second half, Adrian Yepez scored in the 55th minutes as he got a cross from Madrigal. Javier Ceballos was also credited with an assist on a pass on the right wing.

Sean Bender finished the Warriors' scoring in the 84th minute on a deflection by Humboldt State's goalkeeper.

Stan State out-shot HSU 11-5 in the second half for the 18-9 final count. The Warriors also made HSU goalkeeper Bryan Hernandez earn eight saves.

Humboldt State dropped to 4-7-2, 1-6-2 CCAA.

The Warriors will look for their third straight win on Sunday against Sonoma State. The Seawolves are 2-8-3 overall and 0-7-2 in conference.
