TURLOCK — The Stan State women's volleyball Warriors played well Friday night. So well, they rallied and came back against UC San Diego before dropping a four-set, exciting contest that had more than 300 fans in Fitzpatrick Arena standing and rocking.
In the end, the CCAA South Division team posted the narrow, 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 27-25 win. The Warriors, however, dropped to 12-7 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA North. Stan State remains in third place behind sizzling Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay — both teams on a seven-match winnings streak.
UC San Diego may have been just 2-8 in CCAA play entering Friday night's match, but the CCAA South is loaded. The division includes the No. 1 team in Division II Cal State San Bernardino (18-2, 11-1), 14th ranked Cal State L.A. (17-1, 9-1) and Cal Poly Pomona (17-3, 10-2).
Friday night, Stan State put up a great fight, rallying to win set three and had a lead in the fourth in an evenly matched contest.
Sierra Adams finished the night with 20 more kills.
Alana Wilson-Reid and
Jordon Wilson each had 10 kills. Wilson-Reid also had six total blocks with five assisted.
Six Warriors had double-digits in digs on defense with
Rachel Klopfer and libero
Chelsey Berry each with 15.
Adams now has three 20-kill matches out of the last five. She had 19 kills the match before that.
Setter
Breanna Cannon had 43 assists, surpassing 1,000 in her second-year career.
