Adams pounds out 24 more kills in Warriors' win over Cal State San Marcos

TURLOCK — Add 24 more kills to Sierra Adams' totals.

That's right. The junior from Silverdale, Wash., spiked a career-high 24 more kills Saturday night as Stanislaus State defeated Cal State San Marcos in four sets, 25-12, 25-27, 26-24, 25-23. Ramey Gardner collected 18 kills as the Warriors featured a two-star night.

With the win, the Warriors hang on, with a steady grip, to the third place spot in the CCAA North standings with 13-7 overall and 6-6 league records.

It was the second straight night that Adams put-away 20 or more kills after 20 kills Friday against UC San Diego. Adams had 19 or more kills in five of the last seven matches.

Saturday night against the Cougars (9-11, 6-6 CCAA South), Adams did it with high efficiency, too. She hit a career-high .468 for the match on 24 of 47 with just two errors. Her 24-kill total is the most by a CCAA student-athlete during a four-set match this season.

Adams now has a team-leading 238 kills. Her 4.10 kills per set average is second best in the conference.

Setter Breanna Cannon, who surpassed career No. 1,000 Friday night, added 54 more — the third time she's gone over 50 since Sept. 22. Cannon set Adams and Gardner 88 times and the duo responded with 42 of the team's 61 kills.

On defense, libero Chelsey Berry had 16 digs and Jordon Wilson stuffed five shots with two solo blocks. Wilson also chipped in eight kills and one of the team's six service aces.

Saturday night's Stan State starting lineup featured players from five Western continental states — Washington (Adams), Oregon (Gardner), Idaho (Mackenzie Morris), Arizona (Cannon) and California (Alana Wilson-Reid, Wilson and Berry). Nevada was also represented when Rachel Klopfer (Las Vegas) entered the match.
