TURLOCK — The overtime period didn't last long. Thanks to
Summer England.
In fact, Friday night's extra time match lasted just one minute longer as the freshman scored the sudden-victory winner goal at 91:00 for Stan State's 3-2 win over Humboldt State.
England's winner completed the rally as the Warriors scored three unanswered goals. Stanislaus improved to 7-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the CCAA heading into Sunday's match against Sonoma State.
A flurry of goals were scored in a 10-minute window in the second half. Humboldt State (4-8-1, 2-7-0 CCAA) scored the first two within four minutes, at 64th and 68th.
But the Warriors answered back.
First, it was
Ilena Rivera at 68:30 on a set-up by
Sadie Ortiz. Then,
Micaela Brewer sent in the equalizer less than five minutes later to make it 2-2.
The teams then played evenly for the rest of regulation. The Warriors did have a few chances in the final minutes but had a shot blocked and another picked up by HSU goalkeeper Brooke Townsend — her only save of the match.
