Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors end Chico State winning streak with 1-1 draw

TURLOCK — The Stanislaus State women's soccer team peppered Chico State late in the contest as the Warriors protect their house to earn a 1-1 draw against the hottest team in the CCAA.

The first place Wildcats snapped a seven-match winning streak with the tie, but remain unbeaten for the season at 8-0-5, 7-0-2 CCAA. The Warriors are now 7-5-3, 3-4-2 CCAA after earning a point in the standings.

Sadie Ortiz, the team's leader, sent in the equalizer in the 87th minute with a nice blast high over Chico goalkeeper Brenna Meier. She had received the ball from Julia Cummings, who at 5-foot-2 somehow out-jump two taller defenders to win the header.

The goal against Meier was a rare one as Chico State had shutout four opponents in the seven previous games. Meier entered with a 0.41 goals-against-average.

Stan State kept attacking late, sending in four shots in the final two minutes of the second overtime and nearly came up with the win.

The Warriors out-shot Chico State, 7-4 in overtime and 16-11 overall.

Warrior goalkeeper Haley Crook came up with five saves and Meier finished with six saves.

Chico State had taken the lead in the 41st minute with a goal by Susanna Garcia. Abbie Jones sent a ball over the top from just in front of her bench to a streaking Garcia, who dribbled past her defender and juked Crook for the chance. She got the shot off just in time ahead of Kinsey Pettigrew's attempt to block the shot.

The Warriors have one match remaining for the week, an afternoon match on Friday at San Francisco State.
