TURLOCK — Taking better shots and playing improved defense were the formula Friday night as the Stan State men's soccer team defeated visiting Bethesda, 3-0, at Warrior Stadium.
Stanislaus, which snapped a six-game losing streak, improved to 4-7-0 on the season during the CCAA bye-week.
Bethesda, a small Christian university in Anaheim, is 6-5-1.
Khalil Kirksey,
Adrian Yepez and
Antonio Hernandez all scored goals for the Warriors as they netted three goals for the first time since Sept. 8 — the date of their last victory.
Kirksey goal in the 35th minute was a beauty.
Desmond Madrigal's throw-in on the far sideline went to
Sean Bender who flick it on to Kirksey for the one-time volley into the net.
Yepez scored his third goal of the season in the 58th minute to make it 2-0. Bender assisted on the goal as well.
Then, Hernandez knocked in the closer at 84:55 to the final count.
The Warriors took 12 shots on the night but had eight shots on frame with three finding the back of the net.
Goalkeeper
Justin Motzkus picked up both shots of goal by the Flames.
Stanislaus State will enjoy five home matches in the next six contest beginning with next Friday's date with Humboldt State.
