Davis nets 24 as Warriors beat Metro State in overtime

DENVER — Ty Davis scored a career-high 24 points as Stanislaus State improved to 3-0 after a key pre-season win over Metro State, 79-75, in overtime Friday evening.

The Warriors didn't shoot particularly well, but played tenacious defense down the stretch en route to the win. The Warriors also didn't have a good night at the free throw line but made enough in the extra period to pull the win.

Stanislaus State will face Regis Saturday at 3 p.m. Mountain Time. Regis (1-1) is ranked No. 19 in the current NABC Division II Top 25.

Friday against the Roadrunners (0-1), Davis was at the top of his offensive game, hitting 10 of 14 shots to lead the team. The rest of the team shot just 20 of 64 (31.3 percent) in the high elevation. Davis scored 16 of his points in the second half as the teams battled neck-and-neck. No one led by more than four points.

It was Davis' jumper with seven seconds left that tied the game at 68 for overtime. In fact he scored the team's final six points in regulation.

In overtime, after Davis scored the first three points (he was fouled on a running jumper), Joseph Alvarez made two layup to give Stan State a five-point lead at 75-70.

Vasilije Saraba and Darius Scott combined to make four of the last six free throws to seal the win.

Saraba finished with 15 points and seven rebounds with three assists and Andy Cleaves chipped in 13 points with four assists. Davis also had four assists. Scott ended up with 12 points off the bench.

For the game, the Warriors committed just eight turnovers against Metro State's 19. Metro shot 51.9 percent from the field and nailed nine three-pointers in the loss. The Roadrunners were terrible at the foul line, hitting just 12 of 25.
