HAYWARD — New Warrior
Vasilije Saraba's debut was a total success as the 6-foot-7 junior posted a double-double to lead the Stanislaus State Warriors to a 74-57 victory over Holy Names Friday night at Cal State East Bay.
Saraba scored 22 points with 11 rebounds in 32 minutes of play in his first game as a Warrior. Returners
Andy Cleaves scored 19 and
Ty Davis netted 14 as the trio accounted for most of the Stan State scoring.
Saraba shot 8-for-13 with three three-pointers to lead the way. Cleaves also made eight shots in 12 tried with two treys.
The Warriors shot 44.8 percent for the game after a red-hot start. Stan State shot around 65 percent early in the game before settling in at 47.1 percent at the break. Stanislaus led 39-23 at the half.
Stanislaus led by as many as 23 points in the second half, at 68-45. The Warriors began with a 12-0 run in the first three minutes of the game, making their first six of eight shots. Saraba opened the scoring with a three-pointer to begin his Stan State career.
The Warriors established a 21-point, 33-12, lead on back-to-back triples by Cleaves. Saraba's layup at 5:36 made it 35-12 — a 23-point lead they would duplicate.
Stanislaus State plays Notre Dame de Namur at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
