NAMPA, Idaho — The Stanislaus State women's basketball team took on Northwestern Nazarene in its season opener but were unable to keep up with the Nighthawks in a 88-59 loss Friday night.
The Warriors faced
déjà vu, as last season they were also unable to defeat Northwestern Nazarene to start the 2017-18 season in Turlock.
This time around,
Brittney Livingston led Stan State's offense with 11 points and four assists.
Lizzy Alexander scored a total of 10 points.
Caitlin Keding had seven steals for the Warriors and
Kaleigh Taylor led in rebounds with seven.
The Warrior's 28 points in the paint were not enough to keep up with the Nighthawks, as they fell behind early in the game. NNU took off to a 13-2 lead including 11 straight points.
As a team, the Warriors shot 41.5 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line, hitting on 9 of 12. NNU went to the line much more often as the Nighthawks were 29 for 33.
Avery Albrecht led NNU with 18 points while McKenna Walker and Danielle Jardine each scored 13. Walker also led with 10 rebounds.
The CCAA/GNAC Crossover will continue tomorrow when the Warriors take on Central Washington at 7:30 MST.
