Warriors come up short against Broncos

TURLOCK – The Stanislaus State women's basketball team battled its way with Cal Poly Pomona before losing to the Broncos 75-64 Saturday night at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
 
The Warriors are now 1-2 in conference and 1-4 overall. The Broncos are now 2-0 in conference and 5-1 overall.
 
Kyanna Davis had a season high in points dominating with a total of 21 and had five steals. Behind Davis with another season high was Angelica Baylon with 15 points. Baylon also had seven assists. Leading in rebounds for the Warriors was Alexus Kelly with 10, a new personal best.
 
The women held their own in the second and third quarters only trailing behind the Broncos four points at most but their 26 points in the half were not enough to catch up in the fourth quarter. Stanislaus was only able to keep their lead for about three and a half minutes.
 
Stan State struggled at the free throw line against Pomona who shot 82.9 percent, while the Warriors shot 61.1 percent. Stan State was able to score 16 points off of turnovers.
 
Jordyn Shane was the leader in offense for the Broncos with a whopping 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Rebecca Islas added 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Broncos shot 32.4 percent from the field.
 
The Warriors will be back at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena on Sunday, December 30, to take on Cal State San Bernardino at 4 p.m.
