TURLOCK — The long break didn't help the Stanislaus State men's basketball team.
Playing for the first time in 11 days — and the first time on home court since Dec. 1 — the Warriors came out flat and couldn't make shots in a lopsided 70-42 loss to Cal State San Bernardino. The setback, the Warriors' third straight, dropped the team to 4-6 overall and 1-5 in CCAA play.
On the flip side, the CSUSB Coyotes were red-hot, shooting in the high 60-percent for most of the first half en route to improving their record to 7-4, 3-3 CCAA.
Stanislaus State finished the night just 23.7 percent shooting from the floor (14 for 59). It was the lowest field goal percentage in a game against a Division II opponent during the CCAA era. The Warriors made just 4 of 37 three-point attempts (10.8 percent).
Cal State San Bernardino led by as many as 36 points in the middle of the second half. It had a 31-point lead towards the end of the first half as the Coyotes shot 56.7 percent in the opening 20 minutes. CSUSB at one point hovered around the 65 percent shooting mark early in the game. The Coyotes were also 6 of 12 from the 3-point arch in the first half to open up the big lead.
Jourdan Johnson and
Jacob Danhoff each had seven points.
Rolaun Dunham and
Andy Cleaves each pulled six rebounds. Stan State's top three scorers —
Vasilije Saraba, Cleaves and
Ty Davis — combined for 3-for-24 shooting.
The Warriors will have another long break before their next game on Jan. 3 at Cal State East Bay. Stan State won't see home court for a game again until Jan. 10.
