ARCATA —
Ty Davis and
Vasilije Saraba both had career nights, but unfortunately the Warriors lost an offensive shootout against Humboldt State, 87-78, Saturday night at Lumberjack Arena.
Davis scored 28 points and Saraba notched a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds — both career bests — but Stanislaus State dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
It was Saraba's second double-double of his Stan State career as he debuted on Nov. 9 with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Holy Names.
For Davis, it's his third career 20-point game and the second this season. He scored 24 points on Nov. 16 in an overtime win over Metro State in Denver.
Humboldt State (6-4, 3-2 CCAA) led by as many as 17 points in the first half when Jackson Strong's bucket made it 34-17 at 6:05 left. A 9-0 Stan State run did cut the deficit but HSU led 42-30 at halftime.
The Warriors eventually tied the game with an early second half rally. An 11-0 run that included three Saraba baskets, a
Jacob Danhoff three-pointer and a
Joseph Alvarez score tied the game at 50-50 five and a half minutes after intermission.
The Lumberjacks answered with a 9-0 run for a lead they would never relinquish.
Four HSU players scored double digits led by Justin Everett's 28 points.
Stan State will have 11 days off until its next game, on Dec. 19, when the Warriors host Cal State San Bernardino.
