Warriors record another win, defeat Art U 4-1

TURLOCK – Going 2-0 on the weekend the Stanislaus State softball team snagged another victory, defeating Academy of Art 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.
 
With back to back wins the Warriors are now 5-2 overall and Academy of Art is now 4-4.
 
Katelyn McDonald had a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-2 and earning an RBI. Alanah Laupua-Vanisi was 1-for-2 hitting a double and earning an RBI. Deja Guzman and Maya Yoshiura also had RBI's, and Alexus Martinez, Desiree Gonzalez, Ruby Quiralte, and Kaitlyn Doyle scored the Warriors' four runs.
 
Stan State started the game strong working through their entire lineup and scoring three consecutive runs in the first inning. Laupua-Vanisi walked with the bases loaded to put the Warriors' first run on the board, followed by a ground out by Guzman to drive Gonzalez to home plate. McDonald then hit an RBI single before the Urban Knights were able to record a third out.
 
In the third inning Laupua-Vanisi hit a double to right center before Doyle stepped in as a pinch runner. A fielding error by Art U and four balls loaded the bases with only one out on the board. Yoshiura hit a sacrifice fly to right field to send Doyle home.
 
Megan Stacy earned the win from the circle, relieving starting pitcher Mackenzie Dekay in the third inning. She gave up two hits and struck out five batters in 4.2 innings, and is now 2-0.
 
Stan State will be back at home next weekend for their first CCAA series of 2018. The Warriors will host Cal State East Bay in a double header starting at 2 p.m. on Friday.
