Keding makes game winning three-pointer to defeat Humboldt State in overtime

TURLOCK – After a tied score took the Stanislaus State women's basketball team into overtime, Caitlin Keding made a game winning three-pointer to defeat Humboldt State 51-50 on Saturday night at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
 
After taking down the second place team in the conference, the Warriors are now 10-14 and 7-11 in the CCAA. The Lumberjacks are 13-10 overall and 12-6 in conference play.
 
Zahria Hendrix led Stan State's offense with 13 points. Lizzy Alexander scored 10 points, Caitlin Keding had nine, and Kyanna Davis scored seven points. Erkia Larsen once again led the Warriors rebounding efforts with 11 grabs at the hoop. Alexander and Davis each had seven rebounds.
 
Angelica Baylon was a great facilitator against the Jacks with six assists, and she also led the team with two steals.

As a team the Warriors shot 35.2 percent from the field, an new season best of 55.6 percent from the three-point arc, and 50 percent from the three-point line.  
 
The game got off to a slow start for both teams, with only one shot made by Humboldt State for almost three minutes. It was a low scoring quarter, neither teams making it into double-digits before the end of the period (8-9).
 
In the second quarter the Jacks took a 17-10 lead making the Warriors work to stay in it. Not a shot was made for three whole minutes, until Cameo Warren and Hendrix each made a layup to tie the game. Both teams made a three-pointer before half time to keep the score even (20-20).
 
Stan State sped ahead in the third, making a jumper and two three-pointers in the first two minutes (28-21). After over two minutes without a single shot made, the Lumberjacks started pulling their way back. Humboldt State briefly look the lead but the Warriors tied the game before the end of the quarter (34-34).
 
In the fourth no team was able to lead by more than four points, keeping fans on their toes and maintaining a close game. 30 seconds before the final buzzer the Jacks made a three-pointer to pull ahead (44-41).  Keding followed it up with a three-pointer of her own to once again even the score and send the game into overtime.
 
Each team made a layup in overtime to keep the score tied, then Humboldt made a free-throw to gain the advantage. Down by two, Keding made a three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the game for the win.
 
Ismar Conde was the leading scorer for Humboldt State with 21 points and four steals. Riann Thayer led with nine rebounds and both Conde and Jovanah Arrington had seven rebounds. Humboldt State shot 27.5 percent as a team from the field, 22.2 percent from the three-point arc, and 60 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Next week the Warriors will be on the road for their final CCAA travel weekend. Stan State will play at Cal State L.A. on Thursday and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
