LOS ANGELES - After a promising first half, the Stanislaus State women's basketball team got passed up by Cal State L.A., losing to the Golden Eagles 55-58 at the Cal State L.A. Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Warriors are now 10-15 overall and CSULA is 14-12 and 13-7 in league play.
Zahria Hendrix led Stan State with 12 points and
Brittney Livingston score 10 points.
Caprina Pipion was the Warriors' leading rebounder with eight rebounds and
Cameo Warren had six grabs at the hoop. Stan State led the game with 25 rebounds as a team and eight total steals.
As a team the Warriors shot 29.8 percent from the field, 20 percent from behind the three-point arc, and 77.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Making their first layup over three minutes into the game, the Warriors got off to a slow start. Neither team took more than a two-point lead up until the last minute of the quarter when
Kyanna Davis made a jumper to pull three points ahead (11-8). Hendrix made a three-pointer with three seconds on the clock to win the period 14-10.
Stan State held onto the lead for the entire second quarter, pushing 11 points ahead (30-19). The Golden Eagles began catching up while the Warriors weren't able to make a shot, sending Stan State into half time with just a four-point lead (30-26).
The Warriors lost the lead briefly in the third quarter (33-35), but took it back with back to back shots by Hendrix and three shots from Livingston. They put six points between themselves and CSULA before heading into the final period, to end all three quarters with the lead (46-40).
Cal State L.A. tied the score quickly into the fourth then proceeded to pull ahead. After losing their advantage the Warriors weren't able to pull back ahead, taking a loss in the end.
Madison Adams was the Golden Eagles leading scorer with 16 points and Christina Delapina and Rebeccah DiRegolo each scored 11 points. Delapina also led with six assists and Rikke Fabricius led Cal State L.A. with seven rebounds. As a team the Golden Eagles shot 34 percent from the field, 22.7 percent from the three-point arc, and 84 percent from the free-throw line.
On Saturday the Warriors will head to Cal State Dominguez Hills for their last regular season competition on the road. Stan State will play the Toros starting at 5:30 at the Torodome.
