CARSON - In a close game between evenly matched teams, the Stanislaus State women's basketball team took a loss against Cal State Dominguez Hills 64-73 at the Torodome on Saturday night.
Finishing up their away schedule for the season the Warriors are now 10-17 overall and 7-14 in the CCAA. The Toros have advanced to 13-14 and 11-10 in conference play.
Kyanna Davis led Stan State's offense with 22 points, a new personal best for her.
Lizzy Alexander also scored in the double digits with 16 points.
Caitlin Keding and Davis shared the lead with nine rebounds apiece, Alexander had eight rebounds, and
Brittney Livingston grabbed seven rebounds. As a team Stan State out-rebounded Cal State Dominguez Hills 54-45.
Angelica Baylon was the assist leader once again for the Warriors with six assists and she had three steals. Davis also had three steals and Keding had two blocks.
As a team Stan State shot 33.3 percent from both the field and the three-point arc, and 60 percent from the free-throw line.
The Warriors flew ahead to start the game, taking an 11-4 lead over the Toros. Neither team made a shot for three entire minutes before each team made a single free-throw. Stan State finished the first quarter with a nine-point lead (15-6) and momentum to take them into the second period.
Cal State Dominguez Hills started to tighten the gap in the second with back to back layups and a jumper after two Warrior turnovers (17-13). Stan State refused to give up their advantage and retaliated with a couple of layups and a pair of free-throws. By the end of the second quarter the Toros had stepped up their offense and closed the point gap to just two points (23-21).
The score continued to fluctuate in the third period as CSUDH took over the lead (27-30). After two more lead changes the Toros gained five points on Stan State to take them into the fourth quarter, a lead which they held onto for the reminder of the game. The Warriors, working to keep themselves in the game, tied the score at 55 but Cal State Dominguez Hills defended the win.
Taylor Farris led the Toros with 23 points and both Zhane Carter and Nautica Morrow scored 15 points. Farris also led with 11 rebounds and Desiree Harding and Paradise Hanchett had six rebounds apiece. Morrow had six steals and Farris had four. Cal State Dominguez Hills shot 35.4 percent from the field, 29.6 percent from the three-point arc, and 65.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Next weekend the Warriors will host their last pair of conference games for the season. Stan State will host Cal State East Bay on Thursday night and Cal State Monterey Bay as they recognize three Warrior seniors on Saturday night.
