TURLOCK - Opening the day with another extra-inning game, the Stanislaus State softball team went 1-1 again with Cal State East Bay, winning 7-6 in eight innings and lost 3-6 in the nightcap on Saturday night at the Warrior Softball Field.
The Warriors are now split in conference play with two CCAA wins and two losses, and they are 7-4 overall. The Pioneers are now 8-6 overall and 4-4 in league.Â
In game one
Aliyah Garvin went 3-for-5 at the plate earning three RBI and scoring a run.
Alanah Laupua-Vanisi was 1-for-4 but hit a double, scored a run, and earned two RBI.
Ruby Quiralte was 2-for-3 and both
Deja Guzman and
Maya Yoshiura each earned an RBI.Â
Stan State came into game one with determination, scoring four runs in the second inning beginning with a double by Laupua-Vanisi to drive Yoshiura and Quiralte home. Two at-bats later Garvin hit a two-RBI single to record two more runs. Cal State East Bay was later able to pass up the Warriors, scoring three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth.Â
Guzman hit a single with the bases loaded to tie the score in the fifth inning, and with three runners still on Yoshiura hit a sacrifice fly to right field to put Stan State back in the lead. With two outs on the board, the Warriors were unable to end the game as Cal State East Bay hit an RBI double sending the game into an extra inning.
After three quick outs highlighted by a double play from third, to second, to first, there was only one out recorded before Garvin drove Madi Mayol to home plate to score the game-winning run.
Quiralte went 2-for-3 in the nightcap scoring one run and earning an RBI.
Alexus Martinez was 2-for-4, also scoring a run. McDonald and Guzman earned the Warriors two other RBI.
In game two, after the Pioneers scored three runs in the first inning Stan State retaliated with three runs of their own. Both Quiralte and McDonald hit singles to advance two runners and score a run, and Guzman earned the final RBI. Cal State East Bay scored twice in the second inning and once in the third to round out their score.
Anyssa Garvin earned the win in the opener as the Warriors' third pitcher to step into the circle. Garvin pitched 3.2 innings and gave up one earned run on three hits, and is now 1-0.
Kylie Ragsdale started the game for Stan State and was relieved by
Karina Callazo before Garvin took her place on the field.Â
Kylie Ragsdale suffered the loss in game two after taking over for
Megan Stacy in the first inning. She gave up three earned runs on nine hits, walked one batter and struck out two. Ragsdale is now 2-2 in the circle.Â
Next weekend the Warriors will be headed to Humboldt State for a four-game series in Arcata, and will be back at home on March 2nd to host another CCAA series.
