LAS VEGAS – Finishing their first weekend of the season 3-2, the Stanislaus State softball team lost to Minot State 4-8 on the final day of the MSUB Desert Stinger.
Despite the outcome, the Warriors did have some impressive swings at the plate.
Alanah Laupua-Vanisi went 2-for-3 hitting a homer to center field.
Aliyah Garvin was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and
Desiree Gonzalez hit a double, earned an RBI, and a run.
Maya Yoshiura earned the Warriors' fourth RBI to round out their final score.
Stan State was up against a wall when Minot scored five runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Minot hit two doubles and a triple and scored twice on Warrior errors.
Working to prevent the game from ending in five innings, Stan State scored three runs in the fourth inning highlighted by Gonzalez's double down the left field line. Laupua-Vanisi scored the Warriors' final run in the fifth with a home run.
Karina Callazo took the loss against Minot pitching a mere 0.1 inning, and
Kylie Ragsdale threw the remainder of the game.
Next Friday and Saturday the Warriors will be at home to debut the 2018 season at the Warrior Softball Field. Stan State will host Holy Names at 5 p.m. on Friday and Academy of Art at noon on Saturday.
