Warriors split with Cal State San Bernardino to open series

SAN BERNARDINO – To start another weekend of CCAA play, the Stanislaus State softball team split with Cal State San Bernardino, losing the opener 2-9 and leaving victorious in the nightcap 11-9 at Coyote Park on Friday afternoon.

Going 1-1 for the day the Warriors are now 14-9 overall and 9-7 in conference play. The Coyotes are now 12-9 and 7-9 in the CCAA.

In the opener Desiree Gonzalez earned Stan State's two RBI in a single play, going 2-for-4 and hitting a double while Ruby Quiralte also had two hits, going 2-for-3.

Stan State had a number of solid at-bats in the victory, with three Warrior doubles and a home run. Bryanna Menor went 2-for-3 hitting a double and scoring two runs, Maya Yoshiura hit a double and earned three RBI, and Megan Stacy hit a double and earned two RBI. Ruby Quiralte earned two RBI off of a home run and Gonzalez again went 2-for-4.

After a few warmup innings, the Warriors played hard in game two scoring seven runs in the fourth inning. With no outs on the board and the bases loaded Stacy hit a double to right center to drive two runners home. After a Coyote pitching change Yoshiura hit a three-run double to center field to give Stan State a 5-3 lead.

Bases still loaded Gonzalez hit an RBI single, immediately after which Aliyah Garvin earned an RBI on a fielder's choice. San Bernardino tied the game with three runs in the fifth, Stan State scored once more in the seventh before the Coyotes scored twice, and the Warriors went into the final inning down by one.

Quiralte homered to left field in the seventh to put the Warriors up by one, and Stan State proceeded to load the bases with a single and two fielder's choices. Before a ground out ended the half inning Gonzalez singled to center field to give Stan State a winning two-run lead.

Kylie Ragsdale suffered the loss in game one pitching the first four innings. She gave up five earned runs and wasn't able to strike out a single batter. Making an appearance in the nightcap Ragsdale earned the win pitching the sixth inning and is now 4-4 in the circle. Anyssa Garvin earned her first save throwing the final inning of game two.

Stan State will be back at Coyote Park tomorrow at noon for another doubleheader to finish the series against Cal State San Bernardino.
