Warriors fight back against CWU, fall short in the end

TURLOCK – To start off a busy week of six games, the Stanislaus State softball team fell 3-5 in a nonconference matchup against Central Washington on Wednesday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.

With the loss the Warriors are now 14-12 overall and the Wildcats have advanced to 14-4 for the season.

Fighting against Central Washington's efficient pitching, Alexus Martinez had Stan State's single hit for the game and Aliyah Garvin earned the sole RBI. As a pinch runner for Kylie Ragsdale, Makenzie Sylvester scored the Warriors first run of the game, followed by two runs in a single play by Alexus Martinez and Bryanna Menor.

Stan State scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning, beginning with Sylvester's run as Garvin grounded out. Immediately after which a Wildcat fielding error allowed Desiree Gonzalez to make it to first base while Martinez and Menor scored.

Anyssa Garvin suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched the first inning and a half. She gave up three earned runs while in the circle and is now 1-1.

On Friday the Warriors will start off the Tournament of Champions with a game against Western Oregon at 3:30 p.m. and Montana State Billings at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at the Warrior Softball Field.
