TURLOCK - Going 1-1 for the day, the Stanislaus State softball team ended the night with an action packed 5-4 victory against Montana State Billings on Friday evening at the Warrior Softball Field.
After losing their first game of the day to Western Oregon 3-4 in eight innings, the Warriors are now 15-13 for the season.
To start the day Stan State made an aggressive comeback against the Wolves, falling behind 0-3 in the first inning and scoring three runs of their own in the sixth. Following tournament guidelines, the game went into an international tiebreaker for the eighth inning. WOU was able to score their runner while the Warriors were unable to send anybody home.
Ruby Quiralte was Stan State's most effective batter going 2-for-3 at the plate.
In the Warriors' second game Stan State had two players hit flawlessly, both Quiralte and
Deja Guzman going 3-for-3. Quiralte had three RBI and
Aliyah Garvin and
Katelyn McDonald each earned a single RBI.
Desiree Gonzalez was 2-for-4 at the plate, scored two runs, and stole a base.
In the nightcap, the Jackets took a 4-1 lead in the first two innings before the Warriors scored once in the third and three more times in the fourth. McDonald drove in Stan State's first run in the first inning with a single up the middle. Quiralte hit an RBI single in both the third and fourth innings, first to left field and next through the middle infield to drive two runners home. Guzman scored in the fourth when Garvin hit a single down the left field line and the Warriors took the win.
Megan Stacy suffered the loss against the Wolves pitching all eight innings. She gave up three earned runs, struck out two batters, and is now 7-3 in the circle.
Kylie Ragsdale pitched the entire game against against the 'Jackets, earning the win to improve her record to 5-5 in the circle. Ragsdale struck out six batters and only gave up one earned run.
Tomorrow on the second day of the TOC, Stan State will start the day by challenging Simon Fraser at 2 p.m. at the Pedretti Spots Complex. They will end the day with a game against Concordia-Irvine at 6 p.m. at the Warrior Softball Field.
