Margiotta hits for the cycle in 20-1 win before twinbill split

SAN BERNARDINO — Vinny Margiotta hit for the cycle, went 5-for-5 and drove in six runs in game one on Saturday as Stanislaus State scored 20 more runs on Cal State San Bernardino to blow away the Coyotes in a 20-1 win. However, the Coyotes pitching finally got to the Warriors as the host posted a 4-3 win for the twinbill split.

The Warriors scored in every inning but the ninth and scattered 22 hits in the second consecutive rout of the series. After CSUSB got even in the seven-inning shorten game nightcap, the Warriors improved to 17-14 overall and 13-12 in CCAA play.

Margiotta was a mega star in game one, going 5-for-5 with a double, a triple and a homer to hit for the cycle. He tripled in a run in the second, singled in the third, doubled in the fourth before drawing a walk in the fifth. After a RBI single in the seventh, Margiotta belted a grand-slam to complete the cycle in the eighth inning.

Anthony Enwiya also homered in the game — a two-run shot in the third inning. He finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBI and scored five times. He also doubled in the fifth. Jack Large went 3-for-5 and three other Warriors — John Holleran, Andrew Wheat and Brandon De La Guardia — each had two hits.

The offense went 22-for-50 with 20 runs and 20 RBI plus nine walks in the game.

Matt Pulos made the start and benefited from the scoring out-burst. He earned the win by allowing just a run on two hits in five innings. Nicholas Gonzales threw the final four innings and gave up just two hits for a save.

In the first two games of the series, the Warriors outscored CSU San Bernardino 36-1.

However the nightcap was much quieter as Stanislaus managed four hits in the game — three of them came in the first inning.

Large supplied two runs in the first with a two-run homer, his seventh home run of the season. Stan State would add a third run in the third on a squeeze play to make it 3-0. But CSUSB rallied back with a three-run sixth to tie the game. Jake Peloquin's solo homer in the sixth turned out to be the game-winner.

Konner Arnold finally stopped the bleeding for CSUSB (10-19, 10-13 CCAA) with a four-hit, seven-inning complete game performance.

The final game of the series is on Sunday at 11 a.m.
