SAN BERNARDINO — The Stanislaus State offense continued to pound Cal State San Bernardino pitching as the Warriors scored 11 more runs in the 11-5 series finale win over the Coyotes on Saturday.
Stan State wins the series three games to one after out-scoring CSUSB 50-10 in four games. The Warriors improved to 18-14 overall and 14-12 in the CCAA. Stanislaus is now tied for fifth place with Chico State in the standings.
Cal State San Bernardino falls to 10-20, 10-14 CCAA.
In Saturday's finale, the Warriors scattered 11 more hits for a total of 52 over the weekend.
Jack Large went yard again for his eighth of the season.
John Holleran and
Andrew Wheat also homered. In the series, the Warriors belted 10 home runs after entering the week with nine.
Jarrett Veiga went 3-for-5 and Large finished 2-for-5 with four runs driven in. Holleran was 1-for-2 and scored three times.
Vinny Margiotta cooled off a little bit with just a double after hitting for the cycle Saturday.
Large's big pop in the first inning, a three-run shot, jumped start the Stan State day once again.
Austin Fitzpatrick would plate a run on a fly out to center to make it 4-0 before CSUSB had a chance to swing the bat.
The onslaught continued in the middle innings with six runs during the fifth-sixth-seventh innings to make it 11-1. A two-run blast by Holleran highlighted the Warriors' three-run seventh inning.
Tyler Murphy earned the victory on the mound, going 7 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
For the series, the Warriors batted .351 (52 for 148) with eight doubles, a triple and a homer and drew 27 walks with eight batsmen. The pitching staff had a 2.45 ERA while CSUSB's staff posted a 11.12 ERA.
Large went 7-for-14 with three homers and drove in nine runs. His slugging percentage was 1.214. Margiotta was 7-for-15 (.467) with two doubles, a triple, a homer and drove in eight scores. He hit for the cycle while going 5-for-5 in game two of the series.
