TURLOCK – Stealing another win from No. 7 Chico State, the Stanislaus State softball team split the series with the CCAA leaders, losing the opener 5-9 and winning the nightcap 4-1 on Monday afternoon at the Warrior Softball Field.
Once again splitting the doubleheader, the Warriors are now 10-7 overall and 5-5 in the conference while the Wildcats are 19-2 and 14-2 in the CCAA.
In the victory,
Deja Guzman led the Warriors going 3-for-3 at the plate. She scored one run and earned an RBI.
Alexus Martinez was 2-for-3 and earned an RBI, and
Maya Yoshiura claimed the Warriors third RBI.
Similar to yesterday's win, the Warriors put the first run on the board in the second inning. Guzman singled up the middle to advance two runners, which included scoring the first Stan State run.
After Chico State scored at the top of the third, the Warriors fired back by scoring on a passed ball at the bottom of the inning to take back the lead. Stan State scored twice in the fifth inning, first by a Yoshiura single and next by a Martinez single.
In game one
Aliyah Garvin led going 2-for-3 at the plate, hitting a double, and scoring a run. To start game one the Wildcats hit three home runs, two of which were back to back. The Warriors scored three times in the fifth inning to pull ahead but five Chico State runs in the sixth inning gave them the win.
Kristin Borst was the winning pitcher in the nightcap throwing the first five innings before
Kylie Ragsdale relieved her. Borst only gave up one earned run on four hits and is 2-2 in the circle.
Megan Stacy suffered the loss in the opener as the third pitcher to step into the circle. She gave up four earned runs and is now 5-1.
Next weekend Stan State will be headed to San Francisco State for two doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
