SAN FRANCISCO - Starting off the weekend strong the Stanislaus State softball team went 2-0 against San Francisco State winning game one 4-3 and winning game two 3-1 in eight innings on Friday afternoon at the SFSU Softball Field.
Taking home two more CCAA victories, the Warriors are now 12-7 overall and 7-5 in conference. The Gators have fallen to 7-15 and 4-9.
Katelyn McDonald dominated at the plate in the opener going 3-for-3 and walking once. She hit a double and earned an RBI for the Warriors.
Aliyah Garvin was 4-for-8 on the day, hitting a double and scoring a run in game one. In game two,
Deja Guzman went 2-for-3 at the plate, earned an RBI, and scored a run while
Desiree Gonzalez earned two RBI on a single hit.
In the opener the Warriors scored two runs in both the third and fifth innings, beginning with a sacrifice fly by Quiralte in the third followed by McDonald's RBI double to center field.
After being walked to first base, Gonzalez scored at the top of the fifth when Laupua-Vanisi hit a single to right field. Subbing in to pinch run for Laupua-Vanisi,
Kaitlyn Doyle was caught attempting to steal second base which allowed fellow pinch runner
Makenzie Sylvester to score on the throw.
In the nightcap, Stan State fell behind after the Gators scored in the third inning. Guzman's double to left field allowed Doyle to score and tie the game, ultimately pushing it into an extra inning. In the eighth Gonzalez hit the two-RBI double down the left field line to take the lead before the Warriors earned three easy outs to conclude the game.
Kylie Ragsdale earned the win in the opener pitching the first 4.1 innings. She gave up one earned run, struck out three batters, and is now 3-3 in the circle.
Megan Stacy pitched all eight innings in game two to earn the win and is now 6-1. She gave up a single earned run, only walked one batter, and struck out six batters.
Due to weather conditions the Warriors and Gators will skip a day before playing their second doubleheader. Stan State will return to the SFSU Softball Field at noon on Sunday for the final two games of the series.
