TURLOCK — The Stanislaus State softball team swept a pair from Cal State Dominguez Hills with two walk-off wins on Friday as the Warriors took over sole possession of third place in the conference standings.
The Warriors won 3-2 in game one in eight innings and used the mercy-rule to end the nightcap early in a 8-0, five-inning, victory. Stan State improved to 28-18 overall and 19-13 in the CCAA.
With Sonoma State splitting at San Francisco State on Friday, the Warriors are in third place by themselves and are just one game behind second-place UC San Diego, which split at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Stanislaus State is ranked No. 10 in the West Region — the first time the program is in the poll since 2009, the last time the Warriors played in, and won, the CCAA Tournament.
On Friday, it took eight innings to post the win, however. Cal State Dominguez Hills (15-31, 11-23 CCAA) tied the game in the seventh on a Jade Loe two-run single.
In the eighth, though,
Katelyn McDonald led-off with a double and pinch runner
Makenzie Sylvester scored on an
Anyssa Garvin single up the middle for the walk-off win.
Desiree Gonzalez went 2-for-3 including a two-run double in the fourth that gave Stanislaus the 2-0 lead.
Kaitlyn Doyle and Garvin also each had two hits.
Kylie Ragsdale improved to 9-7 with the eight-inning complete game.
In game two, the offense went to work with 11 hits, including two doubles and a triple. The top three batters in the lineup —
Alexus Martinez, Doyle and
Aliyah Garvin — went 6-for-9 with five runs scored.
The Warriors plated four runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run single by McDonald.
Ruby Quiralte and
Alanah Laupua-Vanisi also drove in a run.
Aliyah Garvin's two-run double capped off a three-run rally in the fourth inning. Earlier in the inning, Martinez tripled in
Deja Guzman who had led off with a single.
Sylvester ended the game in the fifth with a RBI single to score pinch-runner
Bryanna Menor, who ran for Laupua-Vanisi after a lead-off double.
Megan Stacy improved to 10-4 on the season with the five-inning complete game. She struck out five without a walk and gave up just three hits.
Stan State now has six walk-off wins (four in extra innings) this season.
