Stan State splits with No. 25 Sonoma State

TURLOCK — Alanah Laupua had a perfect day at the plate today as the Warriors earned a split against No. 25 Sonoma State on Monday.

Laupua went 5-for-5 on the day and helped the Warriors to a solid 6-5 game one win before Sonoma State rallied to beat Stanislaus, 7-5, in the series finale.

Stanislaus State is now 24-16 overall and 15-11 in the California Collegiate Athletic Assocation. The Warriors are in fourth place with a two-game lead — plus-four in the win-column — over Humboldt State for the final CCAA tournament berth.

On Monday, it was Ruby Quiralte who gave the Warriors an early lead with a two-run line-drive homer to left in the second inning. The inning would continue as Stan State built a 3-0 lead. Laupua doubled in that inning and later scored on an Alexus Martinez grounder.

Laupua finished game one 3-for-3 and scored twice — she also doubled and scored on a Maya Yoshiura sac fly in the fifth.

Sonoma State (25-14, 17-9) rallied in the seventh and plated three runs on a triple by Cameron Kirtlan before coming up short.

In the nightcap, Laupua was 2-for-2 with two run single in the fourth that gave the Warriors a 4-3 lead.

With Stan State leading 5-4, however, Sonoma's Alee Balanon hit a three-run homer to deep center for the lead.

For the series, Laupua was 7-for-8 with four doubles, drove in two runs and scored three times. She batted .875 with a 1.375 slugging and .900 on-base percentages.
